Role: Product & Label Designer
Project Type: Branding, Packaging (Hair and Beard Oil)
Platforms: Product Label, Packaging, Digital Marketing
This project involved designing the brand identity and packaging for Salvador B&H Drops, a CBD-infused hair and beard oil with sandalwood and vanilla scents. The client, Salvador B&H, wanted a brand that would resonate with the vibrant, coastal culture of Bahia, Brazil, while also emphasizing that the product was USD-based and made in the USA. Each 30cc (6.76 fl. oz) bottle needed to reflect the energy, culture, and lifestyle of Bahia while communicating the premium quality of the product.
The concept behind the design was to create a vibrant, coastal-inspired brand that would appeal to Salvador Bahia’s laid-back yet vibrant atmosphere. The product had to stand out on shelves, with each bottle telling the story of Bahia’s culture, while highlighting the fact that it was produced on US soil. Key elements like the beach, tropical colors, and Bahia’s iconic coastal vibes were integrated into the design. The sandalwood and vanilla scents inspired the color palette and overall tone of the brand.
1. Research: I researched the cultural elements of Bahia, Brazil, including the tropical landscapes, vibrant colors, and the people of the region. This helped inspire the design choices for the packaging, which needed to communicate warmth, vibrancy, and relaxation.
2. Color & Typography: I chose a bold, tropical color palette, reflecting the energy and cultural heritage of Bahia. Bright yellows, deep blues, and sandy tones were used to evoke the feeling of a coastal paradise. The typography was designed to be bold and modern, ensuring the product name and key information stood out clearly.
3. Bottle Label Design: The 30cc bottles were designed with attention to detail, incorporating elements of Bahia’s coastal charm while maintaining a modern, premium look. The label included clear information about the product’s CBD infusion, the sandalwood and vanilla scents, and the fact that the oil was made in the USA.
4. Cultural Elements: To emphasize the Bahia culture, each bottle featured visual elements like ocean waves, beach scenes, and festive patterns inspired by the vibrant culture of Salvador, Bahia. These elements were carefully balanced to maintain a clean and professional appearance while still telling a story.
• Product Label: The final label design featured a clean, modern layout with vibrant, coastal-inspired colors that reflected the Bahia region. The text highlighted the product’s CBD infusion, sandalwood and vanilla scents, and its origin in the USA, ensuring the product’s premium quality was clear.
• Bottle Design: The bottle design was sleek and compact, with vibrant colors that made the product stand out on retail shelves. The label included cultural elements such as coastal imagery, paying homage to Bahia’s rich culture and people.
• Result: The final product was well-received by both the client and the target market. The product successfully launched in Salvador, Bahia, where it quickly became popular due to its appealing design and cultural connection.
• Client Feedback: The client appreciated the way the design incorporated Bahia’s cultural essence, making the product feel authentic and locally relevant while still maintaining a premium, imported feel.
This project allowed me to explore the intersection of cultural storytelling and product design, balancing vibrancy and modernity to create an authentic, premium brand. In the future, I would explore adding textured labels or other tactile elements to enhance the overall user experience.
